Risilience receives King’s Award for Innovation in Cambridge ceremony

February 20, 2024

Climate analytics firm Risilience received its King’s Award for Enterprise at the Clayton Hotel on Friday (9 February).

Risilience’s climate-analytics technology enables business transformation to a low-carbon economy with its award-winning, climate-intelligence SaaS platform.

The technology is underpinned by influential research frameworks pioneered out of the Cambridge Centre for Risk Studies at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School.

The Station Road-based company was spun out of the Centre for Risk Studies in 2021 after identifying a growing need for science-based climate analytics. In 2023, $26m was raised in a Series B round, underpinning its mission helping global businesses transition to the low-carbon economy.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Julie Spence, presented the prestigious accolade in the Innovation Category to CEO and founder Dr Andrew Coburn.

Dr Coburn said: “It is an honour to receive the King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category. This is testament to the incredible hard work and dedication of every single member of the team at Risilience, I’m extremely proud of what we’ve achieved together.

“We have developed digital-twin technology that is transforming the way major, global corporations map and respond to their impact on climate and nature, enabling them not only to mitigate risk but surface business opportunities. To be recognised in this way and awarded such a revered accolade is a milestone achievement for Risilience.”

His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Julie Spence, said: “Through my role as Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, it’s a privilege to meet so many bright, creative individuals who are truly offering something unique and different.

“This award is only presented to the most credible, deserving organisations – I see it as the knighthood of business awards. Risilience more than fits that bill, offering innovative technology that is truly shaping the world of business.”
