Victor Dillard wins Entrepreneur of the Year from MIT Technology Review

In September, the MIT Technology Review named 35 Innovators who have made their mark across healthcare, transport, space exploration, fashion and education. The Europe-based search identified these innovators among hundreds of their peers. At the 2017 summit in Paris, the five most remarkable individuals on the list were given awards across several categories. Among them was Desktop Genetics founder Victor Dillard, who received the title of Entrepreneur of the Year.
Although the projects, companies and innovations presented at the summit ranged from the infinitely vast (space exploration) to the infinitely small (nanotechnology), they all demonstrated humankind’s quest for prosperity. MIT Technology Review recognizes these under 35-year-olds for their work on solutions that move us forward with a focus on breakthrough, surprise and even accidental discovery.
The summit started with an interactive morning session in which nominees discussed taking innovative ideas to the next level. In particular, the entrepreneurs considered how expanding globally can affect and potentially accelerate those ideas. Victor realized during the conversation that all of them had similar common challenges. Working on groundbreaking projects does not always facilitate access to funds, human resources or contractual negotiations with large corporates, to name just a few obstacles.
