IONATE was founded in 2019 to digitise power transformers and is building a smart energy platform that enables flexibility in the energy grid and everything attached to it.
Its patented break-through design for power transformers allows dynamic control of power flows in and out of the device each microsecond. Their technology boosts the reliability and productivity of distribution grids, renewable generators, and storage plants – enabling the low-carbon energy transition by allowing the connection of more renewables to the grid.
Based in London, with facilities in Scotland, IONATE was founded by Matthew Williams and Roberto Ricci. It has received support from the University of Edinburgh and the Royal Academy of Engineering.
IQ Capital first invested in IONATE at Seed stage in 2022.
